Program
This conference brings together researchers working on financing new technologies and innovation, with a special emphasis on the growing role of intangible and human capital. The conference will feature selected recent working papers presented and discussed by leading academics in the profession. The program comprises theoretical and empirical approaches to better understand how financing frictions are exacerbated by the increasing importance of various forms of intangible capital in production, and how new technologies and innovation impact corporate finance, investment, and employment.

Sponsors

The conference is funded by the Center for the Economic Analysis of Risk (CEAR) and the Department of Finance, both located in the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University.

Keynote Speaker

The keynote speaker is Josh Lerner (Harvard Business School). Much of his research focuses on venture capital and private equity organizations. (This research is collected in three books, The Venture Capital Cycle, The Money of Invention, and Boulevard of Broken Dreams.) He also examines policies on innovation and how they impact firm strategies. (That research is discussed in the books Innovation and Its Discontents, The Comingled Code, and The Architecture of Innovation.) He co-directs the National Bureau of Economic Research’s Productivity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship Program and serves as co-editor of their publication, Innovation Policy and the Economy. He founded and runs the Private Capital Research Institute, a nonprofit devoted to encouraging access to data and research, and has been a frequent leader of and participant in the World Economic Forum projects and events.
